What is COSMiC?
COSMiC stands for Centre of Somerset Music Club. We’re a fun, inclusive community music group based in Street, Somerset, offering a wide range of musical activities for children, teens, and adults — from orchestras and rock bands to folk, percussion, recorders, and guitar.
Who can join?
Everyone!
COSMiC is open to all ages and abilities — from beginners to confident players. We believe music should be accessible, friendly, and affordable.
Do I need to audition?
No auditions!
Just bring your enthusiasm. Some groups require a bit of playing experience, but others are open to beginners. We’ll help you find the right fit.
I’ve never played an instrument before. Can I still join?
Yes, for three groups. Percussion for children and recorder and acoustic guitar for all ages (for guitar it’s recommended to know a few chords beforehand)
What instruments or groups do you offer?
We run a wide range of groups. See our Group Info page for more information.

How much does it cost?
COSMiC offers excellent value. Our fees are kept low so that cost is never a barrier.
Do I need to bring my own instrument?
Yes — except percussion, where we have instruments available for use.
Where and when do you meet?
COSMiC sessions are held in Crispin School, Street, Somerset, every term time Saturday morning. Each group has its own schedule.
What if I’m not sure which group is right for me?
No problem — we’re happy to help. Just get in touch, tell us a bit about your experience or interests, and we’ll recommend the best starting point.
Can I try a session before committing?
Yes! We encourage taster sessions where possible — come along and see how you get on.
Do I have to pay for the whole term, or can I dip in and out?
We ask members to commit to paying for the full term. This helps us cover essential running costs like rent, insurance, and wages, and ensures groups remain sustainable.
Do you do performances?
Yes. All groups work toward end-of-term concerts and sometimes different groups contribute to community performances, but there’s no pressure to perform if you’d rather just play for fun.
Can I join midway through a term?
Yes.
My child is shy — will they be OK?
Yes. COSMiC is friendly, welcoming, and relaxed. Our tutors are experienced at working with all personalities and confidence levels.
Can parents stay and watch?
Yes, and drop offs are ok too .
Do you do one-to-one lessons?
Not through COSMiC — we focus on group music-making, but we’re happy to recommend local music teachers if necessary.
